'Roma' Goes For 15 Ariel Awards 2019

Roma, by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Yalitza Aparicio, leads the nominations for the 61st Ariel Awards, whose ceremony for this occasion will be at the National Cinemas instead of the Palace of Fine Arts.

The film set in the 70s was nominated in 15 categories, among which are Best Film, Direction, Photography and Actress.

During the announcement of the nominees, the president of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC), Ernesto Contreras, made a statement regarding the difficult situation facing Culture in the current administration.

However, he affirmed that he is in talks with the Secretaries of Federal Culture and Mexico City, as well as with the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (Imcine), in order to develop the parallel activities planned by the organization he represents. "This support is from the Secretary of Culture, through the Imcine and the Cineteca Nacional, and it was the way in which it was proposed to be able to hold the ceremony in June," said Contreras.

"We are very grateful for this and working so that not only the ceremony is resolved but the operation of the chain itself."

"The intention of doing it at the National Cinematheque has to do precisely with making a ceremony more open and inclusive with the public, having rooms so that the public can have access to the broadcast, we see it as a great party," he added.
